Fine-Tuning Our Wheels

At Heals with Wheels, our goal has always been to promote inclusivity, compassion, and empathy with our custom wheel covers and fun pockets for schools and students. But even a “wheely” good idea like this can fall a bit flat and need fine-tuning!

The direction of the mascot matters! The left wheel should have the mascot facing left and the right wheel’s mascot needs to be pointing right so it spins correctly as the wheelchair moves!

The fun pockets were originally sliding off of the chair rail and they were too long. They needed to be just the right length so as not to interfere with the handrail. Using velcro enabled them to stay stationary and not slide from side to side as the wheelchair moved. Also, hanging the pockets from the inside instead of the outside of the seat helped it not interfere as well.

Design layouts matter. When stenciling, the layout should balance the piece and guide the eye.
