We are on a roll creating a culture of healing through empathy, compassion, and inclusivity.
What do you get when you cross an electric skateboard with a pothole? An ambulance ride and a three-day staycation in a PICU.
Two days after Thanksgiving was the day I hit it big- no, not my stock investment but the asphalt. That black, sandy gravel and I became one until a concerned passerby called me a personal driver who whisked me to the nearest trauma hospital. Amazing how such a pleasant afternoon turned from an enjoyable journey to being strapped to a gurney in a matter of seconds.
Even in the midst of the storm- the poking, prodding, beeping machines, scans, tests- and then the waiting game-I remained calm. I focused my attention on the friendly, colorful child-centered atmosphere that surrounded me rather than the uninviting medical devices that could scare off even the most fearless. Hand-painted cartoon characters and superheroes adorned the corridors making my stay more welcoming.
I have always considered myself an optimist and as I healed I had a lot of time to think and reflect. I had the support of a lot of people when I needed it most. The wisdom I gained about slowing down literally and metaphorically guided my future actions of paying it forward and helping others while enjoying it!
Fast forward to where we are today! Project heals with wheels is born!
We could not do it without your help.
Roll out the red carpet for our sponsors…
Mrs. DiLieto, who donates her time and materials to sew the wheelchairs’ fun pockets, Lowe’s for their one time donation of paint and plastic, and Mayor Dalina and other politicians who donated their campaign signs to create the wheel covers. We are always looking for sponsors to help support our endeavors so please email us if you can help!
